CVG - Circolo Vela Gargnano
Founded in the winter of 1950 this is one of the most active sailing clubs on the international scene. The club's sporting activity goes from organising courses for youngsters and adults to participation in races with various teams: youth, Olympic and ocean-going. Many of CVG's boats have won World and European Championships plus Italian monotype championships.
CVG's history is strongly bound to the Centomiglia, but over the years the club has been successful in promoting other prestigious events: in each season CVG's traditional calendar includes regattas for Olympic, monotype classes, for dagger board craft, the "Gentlemen's Cup", a monotype championship for non-professional skippers, the "Cento Games in the Parco del Vento". The traditional appointment is set for the first Sunday in September, with the "Trofeo Riccardo Gorla", the opening trial of the "100Week International" Sailing Week culminating on the following Saturday with the "Centomiglia" across the entire lake.
Apart from the Centomiglia, CVG organises the "Cento Cup", a trial on invitation to the world circuit of match races and the duels of the America's Cup.
Since 1996 CVG has collaborated with the sailing association for the blind of the "Homerus" group, a project conceived by one of its own members: Alessandro Gaoso. Again for "Homerus" the first national Championship has been promoted.
Since 1997 "Navigando nel grande mare della solidarietà" (Sailing in the great sea of solidarity) has been organised, a national congress reserved to those who use sailing as an instrument of rehabilitation or as a moment of aggregation.
In 2002 CVG organised the 5th edition of the World Sailing Championship for the blind. Skippers from 18 nations participated.
